I was back in Moltall, Austria, for training. We had two really good days of hard snow and cold conditions then were hit with bad weather and didn't ski for three days - lots of snow, wind and fog, I guess winter is coming and not just at home!

Yesterday myself, Andy and Dave drove eight hours to France where we are going to race in the first Europa Cup indoors. I trained today and it's one of the most icy slopes I've skied on. I had good grip but there are some small stones in the ice and when you ski over them you lose the sharpness on your skis, which isn't so much fun, but everyone's in the same boat. First race tomorrow, fingers crossed.

After a busy week at home running around trying to get my calendar ready, I am now back in Austria on a five day training camp. I am skiing on a glacier called Molltal and the Austrian World Cup Team have qualified for the first Giant Slalom in Solden shortly. If the weather and snow stays like it was today, it could be a very good camp.

After a great holiday in the sun with my family, I got on a plane the following morning to Austria to train and ski in the afternoon with the BASI trainers in Hintertux. I was skiing a bit more giant slalom which helps for the speed threshold and technique for slalom. Hintertux was good - quite cold and a bit of fresh snow.

Now I'm in a place called Wittenberg near Hamburg in Germany. It's an indoor ski hall and it must be the steepest I've ever skied in, also very hard - it's injected with water then frozen, perfect for testing equipment. I normally train two sessions a day here - around 4 hours on the snow with a quick turn around so I get lots of runs in.

i am in Saas Fee for my second ski camp of the summer. It's been a frustrating camp so far, the weather has been bad and we've had 2 days when the lift guys wouldn't even let us up the hill! The days we have skied have been good, no skiing days are just like training days at home, we have spinning bikes and weights with us that get used a lot.

When i was home I was invited to do the prizegiving for the Scottish Dry Slope Championships at Hillend and the week after I foreran the Scottish Indoor Championships held in Xcape at Braehead - it was good to see so many of the young skiers racing and having fun.

I'm in Saas Fee, Switzerland, for my first skiing camp since the end of the season. After a hectic first few months this year with the birth of my daughter in April, a knee operation and the filming of Superstars, it's good to be back on the snow! I've been skiing GS for three days to get back into the swing of things and slalom starts tomorrow. I've got some new slalom skis so looking forward to getting on them!

Update from Alain

HeadQuite a positive start so far! I am ranked 9th in the Europa Cup Slalom Tour from my results in Landgraaf (Holland), an indoor race - I finished 6th and 12th.

The 1st World Cup race was in Reiteralm (Austria). I was suprised the organisers managed to run it because of the amount of snow that fell in the days before. I started 73 which is a long way back from where I'm used to starting. The conditions were rough and not ideal but you have no choice and have to ski as well as possible. There was a massive hole on the 2nd gate and I had already lost a lot of time from the first guys. After that I got it together and my split times from there down were in the 40's. I came out of the course about 10 gates from home after hitting another big hole. There was no result but compared to last season, my skiing in those conditions has improved.

The main goal for me between now and Christmas is to lower my world ranking so that my start numbers are a lot better.

I'm heading to Are in Sweden middle of this week for the next Europa Cup races. I know the piste quite well and should have a decent start number due to my ranking from the last race in Holland. After that it's back to Austria for the 2nd World Cup Slalom.
